The “glocalisation” of Istanbul's retail property market

Purpose The continuation of globalisation and liberalisation processes has prompted the restructuring many national local property markets. research examines evolution Istanbul's retail market to identify how global agents engage with one another produce a unique “glocalized” outcome. Design/methodology/approach morphogenetic approach is adapted applied analyse dynamics change. focus on character behaviour international actors they interact wider political economy. uses combination elite interviews, document analysis corporate case studies obtain empirical evidence. Findings Turkish economy heralded entry first companies into in 1990s. International involvement expanded rapidly after 2004, accelerating process re-structuring. However, while number buy-outs increased, expansion companies–and establishment some international/national partnerships–was even more marked. This resulted “glocalised” strong distinctive culture. Originality/value Istanbul been major centre trade for millenia. substantive recent city's market.
